Halftone Def – Skateboard Series
Chad Landenberger’s annual I’M BOARD series is one of my favorite art shows in the Jacksonville area. I grew up skating, and for most of my life I’ve been interested in the art and culture that surrounds the sport. So when the opportunity came around, I was stoked to spend some time creating the decks pictured above for Halftone Def Studios, and I’M BOARD IV. Thanks to Chad and all the folks who made the event possible, it was a seriously great night with a heck-of-a-lot-a rad art.

Halftonedef – Type Treatment
A while back I started messing around with some business card designs for Halftone Def Studios… I had a loose idea of a looping type treament in my head for the front of the cards, but nothing sketched out & no formal plan attack. About half way through process I noticed the shapes of the letters looking very worm like & decided to expolre that direction. The resullt is what you see above. I’m pretty sure this won’t be making it on to business cards, but there is talk of T-shirts & possibly skateboards in the works. I’m sure I’ll eventually make it back around to my original goal, but for now I’ll settle for an interesting example of where designs will wonder when there are loose goals & no deadlines. … hope you enjoy!

City Water – Skate Deck
Here’s a fun one that came about when a good friend of mine, Michael asked me to do some artwork for his son’s room. Originally we had talked about doing a custom print of some sort that incorporated the city and the ocean, 2 of the biggest influences in Michael’s life. After some thought and sketching the idea of “City Water” started to emerged. Around the same time we nailed down the theme I discovered a place that prints custom skate decks, Zazzle.com… the 2 seemed meant for each other. Here’s to hoping that eventually the board will go from the wall of their loft to underneath their son’s feet! …hope you enjoy.
